VETERINARY REFERRAL AND EMERGENCY CENTER

The Animal Eye Clinic is located in the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center, 123 West Cedar Street, Norwalk CT. This is a very special place. Drs. Neaderland, Berkwitt, Ryan and Nizlek built this hospital which opened January 1999. The mission of our hospital is to provide the highest quality service to the public and veterinary communities. We have a 24 hour emergency and critical care service . The VREC has many veterinary specialties including board certified specialists in critical care, dermatology, internal medicine, oncology, radiology and surgery. The Animal Eye Clinic provides the ophthalmologist.
Our hospital, one of its kind in our state, is a state of art facility , with high tech equipment and the specialist staff and caseload to support it. This includes a CT scan, MRI unit, ultrasonography, digital radiology, in house blood work, dedicated special operating rooms for orthopedic , soft tissue, ophthalmic surgeries and an intensive care unit.
A mission of the VREC is to provide training to veterinary students and post graduate veterinarians. Externs from veterinary schools around the country come to train with our staff as part of their veterinary education. A close relationship has developed with Tufts University, School of Veterinary Medicine , who sends not only their students to extern at the hospital as part of their curriculum, veterinarians for internships but also residents in the specialty of Critical Care .
Our hospital has a library and large conference room. The conference room is for continuing education of our staff and local veterinary community. We are the hosts for the monthly meeting of the Fairfield County Veterinary Medical Association. Speakers for these meetings are veterinarians who are prominent nationwide for their accomplishments in their respective specialty fields.
